BONAFE COMPLEX
Son Bonafé d’Abaix is part of a complex of three dwellings in the municipality of Selva. In this project, although each dwelling is unique in its volume and spatial layout, common strategies and characteristics have been established that unite the complex, seeking harmony.
The meticulous choice of materials, the uniformity in the typologies of the shapes of the openings and the shared landscape strategies give coherence to the project. Despite these similarities, the design is distinguished by the variations incorporated in the volumes and the strategies of distribution and generation of spaces, generating a rich diversity within the conceptual unity.
INTERSECTING VOLUMES
In this case, a dwelling is proposed with a compact volume, almost like a cube that is empty inside. In this cube we find three consecutive volumes, very different in shape and materiality, at the intersection of which an empty double-height space is generated where the living and dining room spaces are located.
The first volume is a wooden L-shaped piece that rests on the entrance area to generate a private zone and overhangs it to create a kitchen space with a lower height open to the central space, and a space on the upper floor where the master bedroom is located, which thanks to the wooden slats has a privileged view of the double-height space. The second is a large double-height closed volume that houses the secondary bedrooms and where the fireplace rests, creating a focal point in this large central space and adding a dimension of warmth and texture to the dwelling. Finally, the piece that connects these two is the metal walkway, which also houses the staircase. A very light volume that gives contrast to the whole and makes the space feel more spacious.
