THE HISTORICAL AND THE CONTEMPORARY. THE RUSTIC AND THE MINIMALIST
S’Hort d’Avall is an old possessió whose origin dates back to the second half of the 18th century. The traditional Mallorcan possessions stand out for being extensive rural estates for agricultural production in which one can find a group of buildings surrounded by land used for cultivation. In addition, on this particular estate we find a highly complex infrastructure for water management and storage of great beauty and heritage value.
The rehabilitation focuses on honouring its original essence while infusing it with a new contemporary vitality. The combination of the rustic with the minimalist defines the nature of the project, uniting spaces to create spaciousness or incorporating new elements of a sculptural character such as the main staircase, the chimney or the pieces of furniture.
Through this proposal we seek to preserve the historical authenticity of the building, offering a fresh and respectful reading of this valuable place.
CELEBRATING THE AGRICULTURAL LEGACY
In this context, the landscape intervention is very important. An intervention in which we seek to preserve and enhance what exists through its restoration and renaturalisation (for instance, recovering the water channelling), renew the spirit of the land through the incorporation of new elements, such as an extensive vineyard for wine production.
This allows us to recover the agricultural value and the roots of local traditions and, above all, to create a smooth and pleasant transition between the buildings and the natural spaces with the Tramuntana mountain range as a landscape backdrop.
