A HETEROGENEOUS SET
The refurbishment and extension of this house in Sencelles, in Mallorca, were developed in two phases. In the first phase, the main house, the only existing building on the plot at the time, was refurbished, seeking to respect the ruin found, preserving as much as possible of the existing elements and recovering those that had been lost, such as the mares vault. The second phase of the project responds to the need to add new programmes to the dwelling, providing a completely different perspective to the previous one. Instead of imposing a new order on the buildings, the existing disorder was embraced to create a series of new volumes that form a collection of small cottages. These individual buildings blend into the landscape, creating an environment full of corners, courtyards and small gardens that invite exploration and surprise at every turn.
A HOUSE THAT IS A GARDEN
During the design and construction process of this house, great value has been placed on local materials and traditional Mallorcan architecture. This not only contributes to the harmonious integration into the surroundings, but also respects and preserves the rich architectural heritage of the region. This Mallorcan house in Sencelles is an example of how architecture can embrace local tradition, revitalise a pre-existence and create a charming and functional retreat. Meandering mares stone paths, gardens of indigenous plants and shady corners offer numerous opportunities to relax and connect with nature in an enchanting setting. A place where architecture and nature come together to create a corner of peace amidst the beauty of the island.
